Born in Hialeah and raised between the bustle of Miami and the calm of the Carolina mountains, Juan brings a unique blend of worlds to the Mountains to Seas crew. Of Cuban descent, he’s proud of his roots and grateful for the journey that brought his family to pursue the American Dream — and eventually led him to a life spent in and around water.

Juan’s path into the world of diving started through service. He began as a volunteer firefighter and grew into a career in emergency services, training in high-angle and swiftwater rescue, along with other intensive response disciplines. When his department sought to build a public safety dive team, Juan dove headfirst — and never looked back. What began as a mission turned into a passion, and ultimately, a profession. Juan is currently on leave from his long time career of EMS & is working full time at the shop. He loves to talk gear, diving, … & good places to eat :)

For Juan, diving is more than a skill — it’s a sanctuary. A place of peace, presence, and transformation. He’s passionate about helping others build confidence in the water, learn to trust their training, and explore the world beneath the surface.
