COOPER RIVER
Fossil DIVING
The Cooper River is famous for a reason.
This river is hiding prehistoric fossils over 20 million years old, Native American artifacts, and colonial-era relics that haven’t seen the surface in generations. Every dive is a chance at real history — pieces of the past waiting in the mud. Imagine being the first human to EVER hold a tooth of the largest shark to ever roam the seas.
But… Getting to them ain’t easy.
These dives happen in black water with very low visibility and occasionally strong currents. Depth isn’t the concern (average depths sit around 35–40 feet) — the challenge is the head game of diving in the dark - even though its broad day light. There’s a reason they call this black water diving.
Expect to be slightly overweighted, crawling on the bottom and feeling around in “gravel veins”. It’s uncomfortable at times and it’s nothing like a typical recreational dive.
But if the idea of working for your finds, getting a little gritty, and surfacing with something that hasn’t seen daylight in centuries gets you fired up — then you’re just our type.
